Variator questions

Three questions about the variator.

The variator has a “cover” on the “B” face which covers the ramp plate and rollers. Other CVT Variators don’t employ such a cover. Is the cover there because the original variator weights called for grease or other lubrication —and the cover keeps that grease from being thrown all over the rest of the “transmission”?

If upgrading to Dr Pulley sliding weights can that cover be eliminated?

What is the weight of the original variator rollers?

1. A: The cover is a guide to keep the weight rollers in their grooved travel paths and prevents them from flying out into space. It, along with the cover gasket, prevents any grease from slinging. Don't use much of any grease.
2. A: Unknown.
3. A: The standard weight rollers are 22.6 grams, 24x18 mm. These are the same as the CN250 Helix. (Tech Tip #2, CH 250)
