Non eth gas or not?

Do you use it? Why? Why not?

Worth the extra cost?

How long have you been using non eth?

Does it really help our older Helix low compression engines?

Is a compression ratio of 10:1 low compression these days? Seems to be quite high compared to my motorcycles from the 1970's.

Oops, my error, sorry. Ours is high compression engine.

So, should we pay extra for non eth gas for it or not? Around here, non eth, 90 octane costs about sixty cents more per gal as compared to 87 octane, 10 % eth gas

I ride 20 or so miles almost daily, year round in central Florida

I was told by the guy I bought my 87 Helix from to add some Sta-Bil product to my gasoline when I fill up. He was a long time mechanic.

Can any one corroborate this advice? I still follow it but those Sta-Bil's are like $10 a bottle, can use it about 10 times so a buck a pop.

I use 100LL avgas. I could go into a 3 year coma and come out and all my stuff would start. 4.99 a gallon.

DB is another guy who knows what fuel to use especially for vehicles intermittenly used or in winter storage.

I have used AVGAS 100LL for years after a recommendation from a motorcycle racing enthusiast. I use it today and will continue to use it in all my stored vehicles including Hondas and lawn & garden equipment. I mix the AVGAS with Stabil Storage, PRI-G and Sea-Foam in various combinations. I have not had any startability or running issues with it's use. I have had 6 Honda CH 250s, two Helixes and two PS 250s all using the fuel. On my two stoke equipment especially, it has cut down on carburetor fouling, poor performance and frequent carburetor overhauls or replacements.

As the mechanic at my local airport told me the story once of the airplane stored in the hanger there for nine years with a full tank of AVGAS. When pulled out of storage, half of the fuel had evaporated. They intalled a new battery, a shot of ether and a turn of the key and the plane started and ran beautifully.

Good enough for me.
