I still love my Helix but...

Postby realbtl » Fri Dec 23, 2011 4:33 pm

Some of the roads I was on during my trips last summer were a bit uncomfortable due to the limited top speed of the Helix, at least with my 240 lbs on it. Most all of our 2 lanes are posted 70mph and traffic is often over that. My solution is an 08 Silverwing.

I had looked at this scooter back in Sept but didn't want to pay $6k due to lack of ABS and the grey color. Well, December is terrible for riding in Montana but is great for buying. Folks are serious and/or desperate about selling. I happened to see the same ad marked down to $4.5k, offered $4k and it is now in winter storage in my garage. $2k buys a lot of "Oh wells." 2500 miles, great shape, waiting on a Russell day-long seat and a taller windscreen.

I'll keep the Helix for local running around, trips up to Glacier etc but I'm looking forward to doing some longer trips on the SW.

Merry Christmas all.

I have never looked at a Silverwing closely, but more power sounds really nice. Oh, and you might have guessed that I am a fan of Hondas... :)

Patrick- It was between a Silverwing and a Burgman 400 and the SW just seemed meant to be. There are not many people up here and used scoots are hard to find.

I also have found that the small towns here are much more likely to have a Honda dealer than a Suzuki dealer. Gives me a little more sense of security on my travels.

Realbtl,

I have the same combination......The Helix and a Silverwing fjs600.
It is a great scoot ! (the helix also :D ).
For the longer trips I will take the Silverwing .
I also have a Vespa P150X from 1979 . this one , I only drive with good
wetter. Next Year (2012) their is a great event (Vespa world days) in London.
I will drive with 7 other people all the way from Holland to london with the Vespa. A long ride , but there will be 2000 other Vespa-lovers ....
3 types of scooters , with different speedings Vespa 95km , Helix 120km , and the Silverwing 180km ! :D .

I lost my first Helix to divorce & someone please shoot me if I ever have a notion to sell a perfectly good Helix again.
I also have a 650 Burgman. The SWing just didn't seem to be a good fit for me. I LOVE Hondas.
You will love having the two scoots. Both of them are a blast & both will serve you well.
As much as I love the Burgman, Around here the Helix gets most the use. That may be different if I were in your neighborhood.
I might also be adding my old 78 GoldWing back into the fleet that I sold in 1996. Thats another story.......

I owned an 04 Silver Wing with 800 miles on it. I never really liked it. It vibrated and it was noisy compared to my Helix and Morphous. It was also a shocker in terms of the amount a gas it used. I put about 400 miles on it and sold it. It was faster than my 250 scoots but after riding the Morphous around town and on the highway for a year and getting used to a Cadillac like ride... super smooth and stable, the silver wing seemed truck like.. just big, noisy and vibrated too much and even though the Morphous was only a 250, it felt incredibly planted and stable at 70mph. Perhaps more time with the Silverwing would change my mind .

Scooter brands dummy here. I know what a Silver Wing is (a tonka toy version of the SWs of yore) and Bergmans but, what is a Morphus?
